Netware 3.12 - Install Novell Netware 3.12 on Vmware Workstation

Host hardware details :

• Windows 8.1
• VMware workstation 9.0.1 build-894247
• HDD 320GB
• RAM 8GB

Virtual host details : 

• Novell netware 3.12
• HDD 10GB - IDE
• RAM 1GB
• LAN card

Preparation :

1. Vmware workstation already running on host system. 
2. Netware .312 iso (Include dos 6.22, Patch Netware 3.12 and 50 user License)Download Here

Step by step : 

Install / Configure netwate 3.12 :

1. Create a new virtual machine. 

• Select custom, next 
• Hardware compatibility, next 
• Install from,  I use an iso image on drive c:, next 
• Guest Operating system, choose netware  5.xx
• Virtual machine name, Netware 3.12 
• Processor, next 
• Memory, I used 1024 Mb, next 
• Used bridge networking, next
• I/O Controller,  I Used LSI, next 
• Disk, create new virtual machine 
• Virtual disk type, used IDE
•  Maximun Disk I use 10 Giga

Note : in other my experience, I try install netware 3.12 on Vmware Server at Linux Centos Host  with 50 Giga disk  and 3 Giga Memory  and everthing running ok

• Next and finish.

This screenshoot after all step finished, my virtual machine start into dos 6.22 prompt :

2. Install / Configure Netware 3.12Format Drive C using fdisk :

• Choose create Dos Partion 
• Create primary dos partition 
• Select NO, when “ to use maximum allocation space” 
• I Used 500 Mb for dos partion, enter
•  Press esc, and ctrl+alt+del to restart Virtual machine 
• Back to dos 6.22 prompt , format drive C: > format c:/s 
• When format finished, press ctrl+alt+del 
• Back to dos 6.22 prompt, copy file config.sys, autoexec.bat, edit.exe, mscdex.exe,cd1.sys from drive a: ( cdrom ) to c:\ ( new partition ) 
• Edit autoexec.bat file like this : ( type C\:edit autoexec.bat) On dos 
• prompt : save & exit

• Edit config.sys file like this : ( type C\:config.sys) On dos prompt : save & exit

• Back to dos prompt: a:\, use fdisk make active drive C partition 
• Select number 2, enter number partion make active, select  1( Drive c:) 
• Press esc  twice and ctrl+alt+del. 
• After restart, should the vmware back into prompt C:

• Type r:   on dos prompt, (drive r:= cdrom) 
• Search netware 312 installation path :

R:\cd netware.312\

R:\cd english\

R:\netware.312\english\install > press enter

• Press any key , should into netware 3.12 installation screen

• Press enter, ( Install netware v3.12),

• Select, retain current disk partition

• Type server name :  ( I used “CUMIASIN”), press enter

• Enter IPX Internal Network Number ( I used default installation)

• Copy server boot, change sorce path cdrom r:\

• Press F 10 (default locale configuration)

• Select Dos  file format (recommended) default

• Select “NO” startup set commands

• Select “NO” Autoexec.bat load SERVER.EXE

• If all configuration finished, VM should back into prompt netware 3.12. 

LOAD ALL MODUL .NLM ON NETWARE .312

• Press reset button on Vmware workstation, Vm should back into c:\ 
• Copy all patch in directory R:\NWPA to c:\server.312

R:\NWPA\copy *.* c:\server.312 > press enter 

• Copy all file driver in directory AMD on r:\ to c:\server.312

R:\amd\copy *.* c:\server.312 > press enter

R:\patch\copy *.* c:\server.312 > press enter 

• Change prompt to c:\server.312\server.exe > press enter 
• Back into netware prompt , type > load npapatch.nlm press enter

• Load ideata.ham > press enter (accept default port and int number)

• Load install.nlm

• Select, disk option  > partition tables > create netware partition > press esc 
• Create partition > yes

• Choose volume option > change volume block size from 4 Kb to 16 Kb > press “ins”button on keyboard > pres esc

• Back to volume option, “Mounted” volume SYS > change status mount volume > press enter

• Back to installation options menu,  choose system option copy and public files,press F 6 change to path netware installation directory > r:\netware.312\english > press enter

Wait until copy finished

• Edit startup.ncf : system option > edit STARUP.NCF > esc save

• Edit autoexec.ncf > system option > edit AUTOEXEC.NCF > esc save

• exit from installation menu and back to netware 312 prompt,

type load c:\server.312\pcntnw.lan to load NIC Card to netware system.

• Type load install.nlm on netware console, choose system options > edit autoexec.ncf

Change like this below > Esc save & exit

• Back to netware 3.12 prompt, type down & exit 
• On c:\ dos prompt > type edit autoexec.bat > save & exit

• Restart Vm machine, press reset button on vmware workstation 
• After reboot vm machine, should automaticly logon into netware prompt ( if any error, please following step installation ) 
• Now, Netware 3.12 already running on Vmware Workstation, you can type load monitor to see netware server 3.12 information.

• You can add user to netware file server using SYSCON command from windows XP/2000/Vista

Install IPX/SPX protocol on windows machine, restart

Mapping directory to netware 3.12 from windows XP

• Install ipx protocol 
• Install netware client

-      Windows explore > tools map network device

Drive : n (example)

Folder : \\cumiasin\sys   ( username : supervisor, password :  (nopassword) default)

You can change pass supervisor using SYSCON command

• Start > run > cmd 
• Choose driver n:\ on dos prompt, type cd PUBLIC > enter > type SYSCON

 

• You can add user, folder, change supervisor password using SYCON.
